MT. ZION

Tucked into the hills of Golden, Colorado, Mt. Zion is a soulful reimagining of a 1950s mid-century home, untouched since it was first built. In collaboration with Diane Gordon Design (architectural design) and CCM (builder), Mary Engelken Interiors led the interior design and furnishings. The original layout centered around a classic courtyard but needed a new perspective. Diane transformed the footprint—tripling the kitchen size, adding bedrooms and a mudroom—while we layered in warmth, character, and thoughtful functionality.

This project was especially meaningful for our client, whose grandfather, Ted Nierenberg, co-founded the iconic serveware brand Dansk. Inspired by summers spent at his architect-designed home, she envisioned a space that honored that legacy in a fresh, livable way. Rich walnut details, expressive quartzite, and organic furnishings meet personal nods to the past—like a warm wood headboard wall, a lattice-backed powder bath, and crisp white walls to showcase her grandfather’s photography. Mt. Zion is a blend of history and modernity, designed with heart and layered with meaning.
